Southern Oaks Commits to Building Green
Developer Mike Rogers has committed that 100 percent of the homes in his newest community, Southern Oaks, will be built to the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) “Green Home Standard.”
Southern Oaks builders will meet rigorous quality standards and follow a specialized checklist to build energy efficient, durable, and environmentally responsible homes. To insure the integrity of the building process, each home will be certified by an independent FGBC Certifying Agent, who has undergone intensive training and testing in green building practices.
Current builders approved by the Southern Oaks Architectural Committee who support the use of the FGBC Green Home Standard are: Mark Trudeau of Trudeau Construction, Lenny Brantley of Brantley Custom Homes, Jeff West of West Custom Homes, Rocky Gavins of Florida Environmental Homes, Susan Carey of Seven Gables Design and Construction, and Randy Conn of Randy Conn Builder, Inc.
Colonial Bank of Tallahassee is offering special financing for up to 100 percent of the purchase price for Southern Oaks home sites as well as interest rate incentives for building to the FGBC Green Home Standard, according to lending agent Jamie Hall.
Southern Oaks is the first development in Leon County to require all new homes meet the FGBC certification standards.

About FGBC: The Florida Green Building Coalition is an independent non-profit organization that was established in 2000 to promote green building in the state of Florida. The FGBC standards are specifically developed for Florida climates, unlike national programs. FGBC’s membership is comprised of individuals and businesses from all areas of the building industry – including research, design, materials, products, construction, inspection, marketing, financing, sales, and government.
